2500 round mount - Orange

In late 1963 Northern Electric introduced the Models 1500 and 1554 -- their first touch tone models. This was done as a "modernized" version of the ever popular Model 500/554 rotary phones. Unlike the later "2500" sets, these phones have only 10 buttons on the dial with the "#" and "*" being noticably absent. To make the 1500/1554, Northern Electric actually retrofitted existing 500/554 series phones with a round touch tone pad that fit in the dial hole. Later touch tone models were designed with a newly designed housing to accomodate the new "square" dial pads.This practice was also implemented just a couple of years later when the 12 button dial was introduced.

This is an early 2500 with the above mentioned round dial mount.


This 2500 has been expertly refinished in a groovy orange that is very indicative of the peroid. A modular plug has been added to the original orange line cord to faciltate connections to a modern jack
