Another spectacular design by Henry Dreyfuss, this model was in development through the late fifties. The goal was to incorporate the dial with the handset. This presented a huge challenge as the dials of the time created a huge buldge around the centre of handset making it very uncomfortable to use. A breakthrough came in 1960 when the "space saver dial" was created. The fingerstop of this dial could actually move eliminating the need for a large gap between the 1 and 0. Another innovation that was born from the Trimline was the now ever present "modular" plug.
